The Destin City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 20, 2018, to abate (put on hold) its recently adopted Tree Protection and Preservation Ordinance (Ord. 17-23-LC) until council, staff and community stakeholders can come together to create an ordinance that is easier to understand and implement.
In the meantime, please refer to the city's Land Development Code for current regulations regarding the removal of trees.
A public council workshop will be held May 10, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the City Hall Annex to bring interested parties together to work out the details and craft a new ordinance. The city appreciates everyone who shared their thoughts and concerns with staff and council on the matter.
